Alts
This is a notice for new players to Ashirion. Firstly weclome to the Mux, I hope you will enjoy your time with us. In order to help you become used to what is a very different world from all the others out there, new players are limited to three alts only for the period of three months after their arrival on the mux.
Consider the following:
1. Many muxes only allow three alts period.
2. RP..this allows you to devote time to getting your new alts into the plots and goings on.
3. Remember to use the +alt code. +help +alt
After the period of three months, the possibilty of creating new alts will be considered.
This is why we have alts.
Alts are often created to allow the player in question to explore a different side of their roleplaying skill and potential, or to play in another area that's not the main focus of attention. There are other reasons why we have alts, perhaps we need to create a gruff Dwarven Blacksmith for a specific story or a Plot, or a beautiful seducer for another reason. Our own plots or plots run by the staff of the MU*
There are no hard and fast rules on alts or rather the revelation of alts in the gameworld, but there should be a set of guidelines. So here goes, I usually don't have to bother posting or writing things like this but of late it seems there's a need to. So here's the word from the Master Wolf.
1) If a player asks you to keep an alt of theirs secret then you're placed under the honour system and bound by your own honour not to reveal their alt to anyone. As for Admin we can find out who plays who very quickly so there's no need to tell an Admin, can't tell you who that alt is sorry if they ask with their Admin character. Anyone using this as an excuse to say that to me will have a sharp wake up call.
2) If an Admin alt is revealed to you, it's obvious the Admin actually trusts you enough to share this knowledge with. If you blab this to the playerbase and they come to me I will investigate why. Usually Admin create alts to escape the job of being Admin and enjoy the game, but also we create alts to place certain key NPC's or Bad Guys in places in the plot for you to enjoy the game as well, something or someone to fight and oppose or join.
3) The alt in question could be played by a member of the opposite sex, it's not unknown for male alts to be played by female players wishing to avoid the usual barrage of sex related questions or TS requests. And don't think it doesn't happen to the guys either. I'm not saying this is the norm for my world, because it's not thankfully. Female alts can be played by male players wanting to try the challenge of playing a woman. What I'm saying is that if you blab an alt to another player they're playing with it could impact their IC and OOC friendship. You have been warned.
4) Players are restricted to two magical alts, any other alts beyond this must have no magical powers/specials at all. Magical powers/specials are considered things like healing with magic, talking to people through their minds, having the ability to cast small globes of light. This is in direct response to players desire to see more normal people around as well as the usual strangeness.
Lastly. Don't reveal Alts to other players unless you have their express permission to do so. Some people like to keep their Alts a secret for many reasons. So as a rule if someone asks you - WHO PLAYS X. Do not tell them AT ALL.
PS... It's a good idea to take advantage of the +alt command to register your alts so that you know how many you have, so that we can make sure we don't idle-nuke an alt of yours by mistake. All we need to do is set a main-pc of yours Vacation and it will use +alt to keep your alts off our idle-sweep utility. So I'd recommend using it. +help +alt.
A word on NPCs. In general, most situations don't carry a need to pose information about anyone but your character. However, such situations do arise now and then. The most common example would be Klagg. Most of the time, he just stands there when you need him to bring you stuff. So, you need to include that in your poses. However, while being a good example, he is also an exception. Klagg is a dummy character, belonging to everyone, in a way. Other situations call for the creation of new characters. Such as an armed escort for one of the Marquessas. Such NPCs are unnamed, and can easily overlap with other people's unnamed NPCs so as to avoid overpopulating Ruatha. Normal players are limited to two unnamed NPCs at any given times. Officer level players and higher are limited to five. There is a second kind of NPC, that of a child or a pet. These are named NPCs. Because this can lead to an overpopulation, named NPCs count as a permanent alt until death or being assumed by another player. Since new players are limited to three alts, a new player may have, at most two children/family members/etc.
